Cover Splice

I just got a new downsized spectra fiber main halyard. Problem is that it wants to slip in the clutch under heavy load. The size is the minimum for the clutch. I was thinking a short cover splice over the clutched area might be the answer, but I can't find instructions. Does anyone have a scource for instructions or other ideas?

you may find it better to insert a short length of 1/8" cord (guessing as i don't know what size line you have) inside the current halyard. Adding cover normally causes problems with what i assume is a Lewmar 'dominoe' type clutch.

Thanks for the tip. I will try inserting the core in some scrap line.

The boat is an Ensign so the main halyard loads are not that heavy. Cam cleats are commonly used for the halyards. I use the Spinlock PX cleat. This is supposed to go down to a 1/4" line. My 6mm halyard actually looks slightly undersize. I guess going to the small XAS clutch could be an option, but it seems like overkill.
