12mm wire rope to swaged and non swaged.....fittings ??

Hello all....Quick question for the swaging part of the community....I have some excellent condition 12mm wire rope that I would like to use as part of the rerig of our schooner.....WHile I have been told that it is the equivalent to 1/2" wire I am concerned that the 1/2 inch swaged fitting appears a bit big to swage on(it just sorta slides on with a ton of space all round for a dry fit) and the 7/16" won't go on although it is Verrry close to grinding on.....soooo would it be necessary to try and find all MM swaged fittings(eyes and forks) and the appropriate 12 mm fitting for the press equipment(wireteknik.se)?? On the non swaged fittings it appears that the 1/2 inch should be AOK?? Your input would be very much appreciated!!

Hi,
From the table I have in front of me (New Zealand):
12mm wire requires a hole diameter of 12.8mm with a tolerance of +0.23mm
1/2" wire requires a hole diameter of 13.48mm with the same tolerance.
11mm wire requires 11.8mm hole with tolerance of +0.20
7/16" wire requires 11.88 hole with +0.20 tolerance
I hope that answers your question.

Hi ,

As a rule you can work wth the following table, both for swage terminals and for maechanical terminals:

mm inch

10 3/8 Not identical
11 7/16 Identical
12 1/2 Not identical
14 9/16 Identical

I think to make a save construction you should get other terminals or other wire.

Regards,

Gijs
