Foward preventer anchor points
 

Hi All, just curious as to the consensious about foward led preventer lines. I am considering anchoring the turning blocks to the foward stantions by using spectra lashing to the very bottom of the stantion. The stantion is fairly stout, with new oversized G10 backing blocks. The main is about 120 sq. ft. The preventer will be led to the boom end, then to these blocks. Or option #2, add a dedicated padeye on the caprail for blocks. Any input? Thanks!!

I run mine to and through toe-rail-mounted cleats (rather large) and back to the stern. Since my cleats are quite smooth I don't feel that blocks are necessary. YMMV.

If you mean tying the blocks to the stauncheons somewhere up above the base, perhaps relying on the top of mid lifeline to keep it all in place, not a good idea as the leverage will likely bend the stauncheon.

If you mean securing to the base - many have bits of SS rod coming up diagonally or hooping across to lend rigidity to the base structure - that will work fine and is quite commonly done.

Stantion anchoring
 

Hi Ian, yes I was looking at the very base of the stantion for anchoring to. The stantion is reinforced with a u shape peice of SS rod that is welded to the base, and goes up and around the stantion, then back down and welded to the base. Very stout. It looks like this is the canidate, and I will lash on some turnong blocks there for that. Thanks!!
