strength of forks
Hello all, I am busy working on replacing my lowers with Dynex Dux. I have some forks from a supplier made of what looks to be investment cast 316 which has been machined. The two sides of the fork are .990" wide with a .503 hole in the middle. The tines are .158 thick. I was told the material tested a yield of 45000 pounds So if I calculate correctly then:
2 forks X (.99-.503) X .156 X 45000 = yield strength of 6991 pounds for the fork terminal The problem I have is that the edge of the .503 hole for the clevis pin is only .240 from the end of the fork. Again, using the same formula 2 forks X .240 X .156 X 45000 = yield strength of only 3370 pounds. I believe that the distance from the end of the fork to the edge of the hole should be at least the same amount as the diameter of the hole. All toggles I have ever seen have this dimension. Ditto for chain plates. Am I right in this? |
