Endura 12
 

The first time I tried splicing Endura 12(1/8") it went very easy. I did a brummel and then a long tapered bury, still holding after years. I recently got some for a non boat project 1/8" again and I cannot get the bury to go no matter how hard I try. There is not enough give to even get a 1/8 fid through no matter how much I bunch and work it. Are there different types of this line? I tried a fid and a snare and neither would get the line through. Is there another way of forming a loop in this without a bury? Since strength was not an issue in this application I settled for a couple of brummels and service. Also how do I figure constructional stretch? The 20' I used on this project seems to have stretched about 4" after the first use. Thanks for any help.

Hello,
Something is very odd here, as 12-strand Spectra, from every maker I've seen, is wonderfully easy to bury into. So first, please send me a sample piece for a look, and I'll post my findings here. The address is 313 Jackson Street, Port Townsend, Wa. 98368.
Next, as long as the Brummels are properly spaced, with each one taking a share of the load, you will likely have in excess of 70% efficiency, and can load accordingly, allowing for an appropriate safety factor.
Finally, is this definitely New England rope?

Sorry Brion I don't have any left. I was very surprised because of the ease the first time. I don't remember where I got the line but it was from an online chandlery. I used it to replace the very stiff SS cable on my wifes weight machine, it works so much smoother now. Since the max load is around 250 lbs and she never approaches that I am sure it will hold without the bury. Thanks for the info on the brummel strength, how many times should I repeat for max strength?
