Serving Dynex Dux for chafe protection
 

I recently set up my stanchions and lifelines with Dynex Dux and have been having some chafe problems that I'm having trouble sorting out. I have only three stanchions per side (28' boat) and the slight angle puts the Dux up against the inside of the eyes. It has been chafing here and I haven't found a solution yet.
First I tried to serve it with a waxed whipping twine but I found that the Dux is so slippery that the twine would just push away, leaving the line bare at the point of contact. Then I tried rigging tape and had the same issue, with the tape quickly abrading at the point of contact. I thought a tarred twine might have more grip but I haven't been able to get my hands on any. I'm currently sailing up the East coast so I can't mail-order anything.
Any tips on serving this stuff, or otherwise giving it hearty chafe protection that won't slide along the line? The line is 5mm dux thru an apprx. 3/8" eye so I haven't got a lot of space to work with.

On a related note, what are preferred techniques for longer lengths of less aggressive chafe protection? I would like to add something where I am seeing some slow abrasion from the genoa sheets on my Dux shrouds.

You might try to address the stanchions more so than the Line. If you can't find anything out of the ordinary, burrs etc, maybe a little cover braid, just a few inches, from 1/4" double braid dacron rope, place over the Dux and lining the stanchion holes? This supposes the dux will slide in the dacron but the dacron will not slide out of the stanchion without cause.
3/8th stanchion holes and 5mm, a little bigger than 3/16 Dux, right; it should fit.
I have found dacron cover braid works well chafe protecting single braid dyneema.

That would have been perfect, except that I didn't think to do it before putting in my splices! So now I am limited, I suppose, to things that I can wrap on.

As for the stanchions I think I saved a penny when I shouldn't have by buying cheap top caps. There aren't any burrs but they do have a bit of a hard edge,

Hi,
Consider untucking one end, sliding on the chafe protection, and retucking. While the rope is out, you could do what you could to relieve the edges of the fittings -- or even to replace them with better fittings.
This problem is not unique to Spectra, of course; many failures of coated wire lifelines can be traced to chafe in the cover where stanchions have cut through the plastic, allowing water in.
