Wire Cutters for 5/16" SS 7x7
 

I am about to start splicing the rig for my boat. Standing rig is 5/16" SS 7x7. One wire is 3/8" 7x7. I have used my hacksaw for practice splices but I'm ready for a set of cutters. Any recommendations for a good capable set of wire cutters? Any cutters out there comparable to Felcos in perfoance but a better price?

Bite the bullet, grasp the nettle, take a deep breath and buy the cheapest ( which is a relative term with Felcos ) pair of Felco C16s you can find.

They will do everything you want and will outlast you. You will spend no better money.

If that is too much, then a cheap 4" or 5 " mains power angle grinder, or a cordless version thereof, fitted with the German PFERD brand cut-off discs ( Part number SG-Elastic EHT125 { EHT 100 for 4" } .1,0 A 60 R SG-INOX - find them on the young persons interweb and EvilBay ) will do the job and many others besides.

A Felco C7 will get you by if you're willing to make seven or so cuts. Fits the toolbox and wallet easier, and makes cuts more work than a big cutter, but much less work than a hacksaw. I'm happy with it, and it fits in a toolbox.

Well, I don't part with my money easily. But, that was a pretty convincing argument. So, I have a set of C16 Felcos on order. It was not in my budget but I got them cheap . . . not. Hahaha. Well I have something to leave to my future grand children. So, I guess that's something.

Joe Henderson, if you are still out there. The Felco C-16's are everything you said they would be. A wonderful piece of equipment and a fine tool--they cut cleanly through the 5/16" 7x7 SS 316 with minimal effort. You never regret buying a good tool but you sure as hell regret buying a cheap one. Thanks for the recommendation.
