Toggle to thimble attachment

I need to attach runners to the mast tangs and need some advice on how to attach them using toggles and some other attachment. I was planning on using Ronstan Sailmaker's Thimbles and Amsteel for the runners but stumped on the connection between the thimble and toggles. What is the usual way to make the attachment?

Shackle

Hi,
you can use a stainless steel U shackle: the curved part fits nicely with the curve of the thimble, and the pin goes to the tang hole. Wichard makes several shackles that have different grades, and therefore different strengths, for the same size. These stronger ones have, of course, a different price, but it's useful to know that not all SS shackles are made equal. My forestay and jibstay use long shackles to connect the thimble to the mast tang, with very good success.

another option

For the through the mast connection, colligo marine makes cheeky tangs, which I plan on using for the next rigging upgrade. This should eliminate both the toggle and thimble components. And the shackle.

Not sure what kind of connection you have, but if there is a pin, John Franta's suggestion (in my case) was to lash the thimble directly to the pin.

Best regards,

Thanks guys. I had not thought of just using a shackle but that makes sense. Funny thing is that the second tangs sharing the same bolts are for lazy jack blocks and that is exactly what I used to attach them. Love the Colligo products so perhaps that is an option when I rebuild the mast. Cheers.
