Oh sure, now you ask if the rope strength will be affected. And the answer is, probably yes, a bit; braided rope is weakened by having extra material stuffed into it. This can be offset by the extra mass that you get, but there are limits. That's one reason that tapers are so important, especially in HM ropes.
