On some boats of this vintage, the "U" end of the toggle was down, and connected to an eye-stud on the lower part of the turnbuckle. With this configuration, the chainplate would be a bail, not a lug. Which do you have?
In any event, regardless of configuration, the sine qua non is the length overall, from the center of the tang pin to the center of the chainplate pin.
