Line Options
Thanks Brion. I talked to the folks at R&W Rope. I got the impression that because it was heat treated and pre stretched it was similar or better than Sta-Set. But after investigating more it seemed that it is similar or better when compared to overall breaking strength. And, the POSH II is a much lower breaking strength due to the shore fibers. It does seem like very nice line though.
I found a double braid also made by langman called Poseidon that comes in white and natural and is supposed to be for halyards (prestretched etc). But breaking strength for 10mm was about 5000lbs. In the end, I decided to go with Marlow pre-stretched Doublebraid. They are trying to get back into the US market. They claim their 10mm has a breaking strength of 8000lbs and the stretch is about the same or less than sta-set X (5000lbs) due to its overall much greater strength. It comes in white and natural. It's about the same price as Sta-Set (about a dollar a foot for 10mm) so its fits the parameters I am looking for.
They sent me a very impressive XL spreadsheet of their prestretched doublebraid compared to a bunch of similar lines made by the other manufactures. Pretty impressive if it's accurate. I am always skeptical of statistics and graphs produced by someone trying to sell something. But, I'll know soon enough. Anyway, I'd be happy to send that data to you if you are interested.
