Tolerances

Relax. Hayn's are actually simple and robust enough that they can get away with vague language like that, unlike the maker of another terminal who said -- and I am not making this up -- that they left the instructions for their terminals incomplete because they didn't want to discourage people from using them.
So make sure that strands are well-seated inside the cylinder. I try to pull them apart, to accomplish this. Then screw the other half on, and run it down by hand until you meet with a wall of resistance. Then put a tool on it and add that 1/2" or so. Not a half-turn, definitely; probably less than a quarter-turn.
Oh, and generous application of Loctite will help prevent galling. Loctite! It's a Glue! And it's Also a Lubricant!
