Hi,
Dogbones are handy, but I recommend just tying a knot in the end. If the result is too small for the hole, thread a washer on first. Weak, very weak, it is true, but that will only matter if you don't put enough turns on the drum to prevent the knot from being loaded. Which you should do with any material.
