And first, glad to hear that you found a section. The good news is that the place you plan on is out of any unsupported length (as was the old location), and that there is less compressive force near the top. The only bad news I can think of is that the weight of the splice piece will be much higher, so I'd recommend looking for other means to reduce weight aloft, to compensate. Splices are ordinarily located where yours was to keep the weight down, and to allow for further shaving via a tapered top.
