I've tried endless (no pun intended, well I guess a little bit) varieties of tapering, burying, whipping and nothing gets the join anywhere close to the original diameter. I can get pretty close when, for example, making a grommet out of Amsteel 12 strand but the Regatta just bulks up enormously.

Maybe just not to be.
