Electronics for testing swage integrity

Just been looking though some back issues of Practical Boat Owner donated to me, and found an interesting thing. Their rigging expert Mike Coates, advocates the use of a 'Maidsure Electronic Rig Testing System'. http://maidsure.org.uk/index.php?opt...&id=2&Itemid=2
Looking at their website, this appears to be a resistance based test.
Just wondered if there is anyone out there who uses one of these types of things on a regular basis 'in the field'. If so, are they useful for a one off test, or like some other magnetic forms of testing does there need to be a Datum, i.e. a test when new to measure the result against?
Or does this kind of kit in a 'swage testing' scenario, just help confirm observations from an expert riggers mark one eyeball?
In my sphere of experience, the feel of the wire, and visuals on the stay in it's entirety, appropriateness of the fittings, history etc, are my primary tools.
