Default Oysterman's stopper knot for synthetic shackle

Has anybody used this knot, AKA "Ashley's stopper", with synthetics?

Seems that it should be as secure as the double figure 8 that I have seen used, but provides a bigger "lip" at it's base that might tend to hold a loop better?
