Default Double Braid Nylon Splice Problem

Trying to splice used 3/4" nylon double braid. First step was to soak the line in diluted fabric softener. This seemed to really help loosen the line, and made it feel like new line.
The problem is, after finishing the splice, what was supposed to be a loop of 16", is a loop of 12", but with the right amount of cover, there is way too much slack or extra cover in the loop area.
I used the instructions from Brion's Working Rope Field Guide for a double braid splice.
I have spliced plenty of double braid dacron and high tech line, without any issues, but never nylon, or anything this large in diameter.
Any ideas on a fix for next time?
Thanks.
Rick

Hello,
If I understand your problem, it sounds like you are getting slack in the eye as you run the splice home. Is the cover at the eye bunched up? If so, it has nothing to do with the splice instructions, and everything to do with keeping slack out of the eye.
There might be other things going on, but I'd have to see what you are doing; care to send a sample splice to me here at the shop? No charge for a look.
Fair leads,
Brion Toss
