Default Chainplates

While we are all trying to get our heads around this new format I thought I'd slip in a question that's puzzling me.

I am about to receive 6 chainplates for my new gaff cutter, and have cleverly! pre-fitted the pads on the inside of the hull.

When the plates arrive how can I make sure that the holes drilled from outside enter the pads midway and look neat?

This could have been a Puzzler Brion, but any hints would sure be appreciated.

Glynn
