Default Installing Roller Furling

I'm in the process of installing a Schaefer System 2100 for the staysail on a Tashiba 40. The instructions say to measure the pin to pin length of the old stay than cut the new stay to this length with the turnbuckle closed. What I don't understand is if the old stay's turnbuckle is adjusted halfway when I take the pin to pin measurement and apply this to cutting the new stay with it's turnbuckle closed I will not have enough turnbuckle to tension and tune once installed. Another words my actual pin to pin measurement is the ideal "tuned" length with a turnbuckle adjusted halfway. Am I missing something here in the geometry of the installation instructions? The rest of the Schaefer instructions are terrific - its just this first critical step I don't understand.
