Hi there,
Um, if you want me to bless that splice, I'm afraid I can't. The entire purpose of splicing in the first place (aside from aesthetics) is to generate 100% strength and security; your splice has somewhat less than that. Yes, all the strength is in the core, but, for starters a loose cover destabilizes things, encouraging core slippage. I'd rather you tied a knot in this line, as then you'd at least have a known quantity to deal with.
