Default Rod for bobstay?

I'm replacing the standing rig on my Cabo Rico 38. The local rigger is suggesting I use rod for the bobstay as it will be less likely to have corrosion issues at the bottom. The stem fitting is just above water line. The rest of the rig will remain wire. This seems a good idea to me but I had not seen it mentioned here and figured there may be a reason. Any reason to not use rod for the bobstay?
