I tried your knot, and it does look like a nice stopper, but it does not seem too persistent. It can be undone easily.

I read somewhere on the internet that a modified Turks Head knot is used. I am tying one now to get familiar with it, and then will investigate which modifications should be done. It doesn't seem to be easy to tighten this knot though.

A question I have is about the tail. It looks like the synthetic shackle is done with two tails. But most of these stopper knots are done with only one piece of line. Are you burying the one tail inside the other?

I'm surprised you found the Oysterman easy to untie, as I find it harder to untie than the Double Figure Eight.

I wonder if the "modified Turks Head" is the same one I saw on Youtube. Essentially a Carrick Bend with the ends tucked up through the middle. Bulky and symmetrical, but the last tucks leave two lumps at the base of the knot. A rigger to whom I mentioned this knot was concerned that it would pull through, although he had not tested it.

Concerning the tails, I have just been tying them as though they are one line, then trimming and melting the ends. Have not tried tucking one inside the other.

Default Too much line

The oysterman's stopper looks like a good way to finish a soft shackle. My issue with it is that it takes too much line to successfully tie it. You end up with more line in the stopper than you do in the rest of the shackle if you are using something like 8mm Dyneema.

I have been looking at the Diamond knot as a stopper, but I'm still not happy.

Pelorus,

Turns out the Carrick bend with the tucks, the "modified Turk's Head" I was looking at is actually one and the same as the Diamond knot. I would not be surprised to find that any good stopper is going to use up a lot of line.
