![]() I wanted to use stainless steel welding rod in place of seizing wire on my turnbuckles...but can't figure out what to use or where to get it. Can you offer any suggestions?
Thanks, Frank Grek |

![]() Hello and welcome,
Any welding supply shop should have what you need. For 1/2"-5/8" turnbuckles, 3/32" is the best diameter. Type 316 is nice, but not necessary; corrosion isn't a real issue here. You might also look into using silicon bronze TIG rod, as it is easier to bend and to cut. It is my preference for that reason, plus it turns a pleasant, patina'd shade of green. The shop will probably offer the option of selling by the pound or by the tube. Unless you are tigging a lot of pieces, 3 or 4 pieces will likely be all you'll need. Fair leads, Brion Toss |
