Default Macwester Wight 32 Ketch Stern Cabin compression post

Hi there,
Not sure what to do here really, but I'm looking to get rid of the compression post in the stern cabin of my Macwester Wight 32 Ketch. It's (obviously) for my mizzen mast, I want to remove it in order to have a full double cabin in the stern, and am looking at a wishbone or something similar and was wondering if someone had seen/done similarly. Stuck between Wood vs Aluminium/Steel too as concerns materials.
Anyway, all suggestions welcome.
I can post pictures if you like.
Thanks a lot,
Steve
