Default Two part halyard

I have a dock neighbor who wants to put a two part halyard on the main. She has a nice Wichard shackle with a sheave in it. What do we use to attach the dead end of the halyard at the mast head? Is a small padeye and a figure-8 knot adequate?

Default Eek

Hi,
A small padeye and a Figure-8? Unlikely, as that would produce a foul lead and a weak halyard. Much depends on the shape and scantlings of the masthead. Got pictures?
Fair leads,
Brion Toss

At least I know enough about what I don't know to ask. *grin*

Pictures will follow when I get them off the camera.
